Rhodium flashing services

SAFINA, a.s. provides also such services as rhodium flashing. It is a process when jewelry or other products are electroplated with a thin layer of Rhodium. Rhodium is a very hard, resistant to corrosion and oxidation noble metal. For instance, when applied on the sterling silver materials, it protects them against tarnish (silver sulfide, Ag2S, produced from atmospheric hydrogen sulfide, H2S). As to the white gold, it is electroplated to give it a reflective white surface and improve surface resistance (gold is a soft material). Standardly applied rhodium layer is 1 µm, nonetheless, it can be variable and depends on the electroplating timing. The electroplating is also suitable for people who suffer from gold nickel containing jewelry allergies. Rhodium electroplating creates a barrier between nickel and skin surface.

Silver, copper, copper alloys and nickel can be electroplated directly. Tin, zinc, lead, aluminium and iron need to be modified by pre-coppering or pre-nickelizing. At present, Safina, a.s. doesn´t have these technologies available and thus doesn´t use rhodium electroplating for these metals.
