Introducing the company and its history

History of the company

The history of the company reaches back as far as 1860 when in Austria a company named G. H. Scheidsche affinery Vienna was founded. Eventually in 1920 this company established in Prague an independent company. Sheid’s affinery processed gold and silver wastes and sold semi-finished products made of precious metals for jewellery and dental purposes. After the end of the World War II, on May 14, 1945, Shneid’s affinery was put under the control of Příbram Ore Mines. After nationalization in 1948 other ten affineries processing precious metal were put under the control of the same organization. At that time the company newly implemented production of platinum catalysis net, platinum instruments for laboratories, contacts for electrical industry, copper foils and foils of copper alloys, AgNO3, electrolysis of silver and many other technologies.

On January 1, 1950 a new independent state-owned company named SAFINA was established. The main activities of this company were: affining, testing and processing precious and noble metals, electroplating with precious and noble metals, production of metal powder, production of devices and laboratory equipment as well as acquiring precious metals. After 1989, SAFINA was at first operating as a state-owned company within a system of metallurgic companies until privatization that took effect on April 30, 1992 giving birth to SAFINA, a.s. The company has become a manufacturing and business organization and gradually evolved production programs and services united in nine independent product lines. Currently, SAFINA, a.s. is a private company and has, just like in the past, dominant position in precious metals processing and that not only in the Czech Republic, but within Europe.

At the beginning of 2007, a joint-venture STENA SAFINA, a.s. was established.
The main objective for this operation will be electrowaste recycling according to the European WEEE directive (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Stena Metall Group is the Nordic leader in recycling and environmental services with operations in 230 locations in nine European countries.

Introducing the company

Joint-stock company SAFINA was established by a record in the Register of Companies in 1992. However, the history of SAFINA, a.s. dates back to 1860. Currently, SAFINA, a.s. is a private company and has, just like in the past, dominant position in processing of precious and nonferrous metals not only in the Czech Republic, but within Europe. SAFINA, a.s. is a middle-size company that is employing about 250 qualified employees.
Wide portfolio of products and services lead to formation of 9 independent product lines. Autonomous and quickly developing is the field of recycling that is significant not only from the environmental point of view; it also enables returning precious and nonferrous metals to production.
